Description
Acetic Acid 2% is a dilute acidic solution used as a specialist reconstitution solvent in peptide research.
While bacteriostatic water and phosphate buffered saline are suitable for most peptides, some sequences may remain cloudy, aggregate or dissolve incompletely under neutral conditions. In these cases, a mildly acidic environment can improve peptide solubility and produce a clearer solution. Acetic acid is therefore used as a technical solubility aid, rather than a universal peptide solvent.
Why use Acetic Acid?
Researchers may choose acetic acid when a peptide:
- dissolves poorly in bacteriostatic water
- forms visible aggregates or particles
- remains cloudy after reconstitution
- requires mildly acidic conditions for improved solubility
- is known to perform better in acidic solutions
When is Acetic Acid preferred?
Most research peptides reconstitute readily in bacteriostatic water or phosphate buffered saline. Acetic acid is generally reserved for selected peptides that are difficult to dissolve in neutral solutions. Examples commonly discussed in peptide research include:
IGF-1 LR3
IGF-1 DES
PEG-MGF
selected hydrophobic or aggregation-prone peptide sequences
Depending on the specific peptide, researchers may use acetic acid as the primary solvent or as an initial dissolution step before further dilution into another compatible solution.
Acetic Acid vs BAC Water vs PBS
Each solvent has a different role in peptide research.
Acetic Acid
- mildly acidic solution
- improves solubility of selected peptides
- specialist solvent
- not required for most peptides
- standard solvent for most peptides
- contains 0.9% benzyl alcohol
- suitable for multi-dose use
- maintains physiological pH
- useful for peptides that benefit from buffered conditions
- commonly used for biological laboratory work
Choosing the appropriate solvent depends on the peptide’s individual solubility characteristics rather than a single universal rule.
Handling and storage
For best laboratory practice:
- use sterile syringes and needles
- avoid contamination after opening
- refrigerate after opening when appropriate
- use only clean laboratory equipment
- keep the container tightly sealed

Často kladené otázky
What is Acetic Acid used for?
Acetic acid is used as a specialist reconstitution solvent for peptides that dissolve poorly in neutral solutions such as bacteriostatic water.
Do all peptides require Acetic Acid?
No. Most peptides dissolve readily in bacteriostatic water or phosphate buffered saline. Acetic acid is intended only for peptides that benefit from mildly acidic conditions.
Which peptides commonly use Acetic Acid?
Depending on the manufacturer and formulation, peptides such as IGF-1 LR3, IGF-1 DES, PEG-MGF and certain hydrophobic research peptides are commonly reconstituted using dilute acetic acid.
Can Acetic Acid improve peptide solubility?
Yes. Lowering the pH can change peptide charge characteristics and reduce aggregation, allowing some difficult peptides to dissolve more readily.
Should Acetic Acid be used for every peptide?
No. It should only be used when appropriate for the peptide being investigated. Using an acidic solvent when it is unnecessary provides no advantage and may not be suitable for every sequence.
Je tento produkt určen k lidskému použití?
No. This product is supplied exclusively for laboratory and analytical research. It is not intended for human consumption, diagnosis, treatment or prevention of disease.
